Series Points Distribution
Who is this series for?
This series is open to players of all skill levels. Whether this is your first tournament or you’ve played PDGA events before, Simply Discs events are designed to be welcoming, organized, and beginner friendly. If you are new to tournaments, staff and players are happy to answer questions and help you through the process.
Shotgun Start Explained
In a shotgun start, all players begin their round at the same time on different holes. Everyone finishes around the same time, allowing for awards, raffles, ace pots, and announcements to take place together after the round.
This replaces flex starts and creates a more traditional tournament atmosphere.
Any Division Can Win
The Simply Discs Series is decided by total series points earned across all divisions, not by winning a single division. This means players from any division can contend for the overall series title.
Consistent participation and solid performance throughout the season matter more than any one finish. Even if you are not winning your division every event, the points you earn still contribute to your overall series total. Players who show up, compete, and perform consistently across the season put themselves in position to win the series regardless of division.
More People, More Points
Each player who registers in a division contributes 10 total series points to that division’s point pool. The more players in a division, the more total points are available.
Larger divisions are more competitive, but they also provide greater opportunity to earn meaningful series points for strong finishes. Smaller divisions may make it easier to place well, but they generate fewer total points, which can limit how much those finishes contribute toward the overall series standings.
Because the series is determined by total points earned, competing and placing well in deeper divisions can have a greater impact on the series race than consistently winning in smaller fields.
Example Calculation
Let's say we have 12 players in MA3.
Places Awarded: Look at the "12-13" range, and it says 6 places are awarded
points.
In the row for 6th place, the percentage is 0.08.
Calculating Points for 6th Place:
Total points for the division: 12 players x 10 points = 120 points.
All calculations are rounded off.
Points for 6th place = 120 x 0.08 = 9.6 points.
If there's a tie in the division, the points for the tied positions are added together and then evenly split among the tied players.
MA3 Beginner Division Explained
MA3 is intended for beginner and developing players who are still learning tournament play. Winning occasionally is normal, but consistent wins indicate a player is no longer playing at a beginner level.
Players who win three MA3 events in a season may still play MA3 in PDGA events if eligible, but must move up divisions to continue earning series points. This policy exists to protect true beginners and encourage player progression.
PDGA Sanctioned
All Simply Discs Series events are sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association. Participation in these events allows players to earn PDGA ratings and PDGA points within their respective divisions.
PDGA points contribute to year-end PDGA standings and may factor into eligibility for PDGA Points Leader Awards and invitations to PDGA Championship events, including amateur and professional world championships. Playing in Simply Discs events provides players with meaningful, rated competition that contributes to their broader PDGA competitive record.
Series Points vs PDGA Points
Series points are not linked to the PDGA. They are part of a separate points system administered by Simply Discs and are used exclusively to determine series standings and series-specific prizes.
Series prizes recognize consistent attendance, competitive performance, and dedication across the PDGA-sanctioned events hosted by Simply Discs. This system allows us to celebrate player commitment and achievement within our events while still maintaining full PDGA sanctioning and ratings for each tournament.
